Refugees
AJALT provided Japanese language programs for refugees from Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. Today, AJALT also works with convention refugees and third-country resettlement refugees.
International Residents in Japan
More than 2 million international residents live and work in Japan today, and the number continues to grow. AJALT also supports education programs for immigrant workers and their families in many rural parts of Japan.

One out of foreign-born children, who live in Japanese cities, do not go to school.
AJALT offers Japanese classes to school-age children and helps them gain access to the Japanese public education system.
