AJALT hosted its annual gathering on November 8. Students and instructors enjoyed a live performance of Japanese songs by the soprano Sara Kobayashi, accompanied by Hiroko Kohno’s piano, Motoko Watanabe’s shakuhachi, and Yuji Sawamura’s koto. The performance also included songs in English and German. The guests discovered how the songs differed among these languages and sang “Sakura-sakura” with Ms. Kobayashi. The event also featured tea ceremony, calligraphy, Japanese chess, and origami. Everyone had a great time.
